Welcome to the Åland Islands´ Emigrantinstitutes Emigrant database

Most of the information in the Emigrant Database is quoted from from the "Åland" newspaper.

In the form below you may query the Emigrant Database for persons emigrated from the Aland Islands.

The percent sign (%) allows any string in that position for example "%joh%" selects all records containing the text "joh" i.e. John, Johan, Johannes etc. Underline (_) is a replacement for any character in the query string for example "Matt_" will show both "Matts" and "Mattz"
Suppose we looking for a person with the surname of "Granquist-Mattsson" but are uncertain how it is spellt. The following query would catch the most likely spelling "Gran__ist%".
Id.Nbr is referring to the Emigrants entry number in the Database. If you are only interested in the first 100 Emigrants you can enter From Id.Nbr 1 To Id.Nbr 100.
The rightmost column "Nr" is the Emigrants entry number in the Database.
A single click opens the Notes image in a seperate window. We are sorry that only a small amount of Notes are digitalized so in most cases you'll see only a message telling you that the Note is missing or just a "Stop" sign.
More information about an Emigrant can be obtained by a single klick on his Surname.

Note: The Notes link is not working properly yet because the digitalization of the notes are is in progress.
